Are you worried that Organic Chemistry will be the demise of your academic career?

Well think again!

-Organic Chemistry is not an easy course but there are ways to make it much easier and more manageable. Below I will take you through the steps that I found to work for me in order to get an A  :)

These three steps are all you need:

Step 1: Preparing Notes and Study Materials

-It is important to remember that preparing notes and study materials does not count as studying. Your notes and study materials for every chapter the exam is over should be prepared at least two weeks before your exam date to ensure you have enough time to actually study the material. GET. THIS. BOOK. This was the main resource I used to learn all of the rules, exceptions and mechanisms, This book also has practice problems with an answer key and detailed explanations. David Klein Organic Chemistry Book.

Step 2: Understand Rules, Exceptions, Mechanisms, Concepts

-After you have prepared your study material two weeks before your exam date you'll want to get a good grasp on the rules and exceptions. Once you actually UNDERSTAND these the reactions will be way easier I promise. If there is a certain concept you are not understanding you can use Chemistry steps or Mastering organic chemistry websites.

Step 3: Practice. Practice. Practice.

-After you understand all of the concepts, rules, exceptions and mechanisms its time to do practice problems. Do as many practice problems as you possibly can. When you think you've done enough do more. Where do I get my practice problems from and why?

- David Klein Workbook

-Chemistry Steps.com

-Mastering Organic Chemistry.com

-Youtube (a photo of my playlists is included on the right hand side of this text)

-In- Class Worksheets (please make sure there is an answer key that you can use to confirm your answer is correct)

These are the only resources I used to get my practice problems from. Notice they have one thing in common. They all have answer keys with explanations! It is important for your understanding if you get a quesiton wrong that you know why it is wrong. This is why I dislike most of the textbooks because there is no explanation as to why a certain answer is correct. There aren't many practice problems and there is so. much. unnecessary. information.
