Welcome!
"I am" and "I want to become" statements
Introduction: The purpose of these statements are to reflect on the journey I have been on as an undergraduate student and to look into the future. Throughout my career I have changed in many ways, however, many of my biggest goals and aspirations in life have remained the same.
"I want to become" statement
August 2023
When writing my "I want to become" statement I wrote it as if all my dreams will come true. While my statement is exactly what I want to happen, I know there will be many different decisions I will have to make along the way that could affect my future.

I want to become someone who can believe in myself even in times of great doubt. In terms of academics, I want to continue to push myself to be the best I can be. Although while doing this I hope that I will be able to realize how far I have come and how much I have accomplished along the way. I want to be able to look back at what I am now in the future and be proud. I will always hold onto what I have accomplished because my immense dedication to my studies as an honors student at IUPUI, my drive and my leadership both on and off campus are aspects of my life that I will always be proud of. It is easy to look at what I am now and think of how much work I have ahead of me. Although I hope I will become someone who can look back on what I have accomplished and be so extremely proud of myself.
Ultimately, I want to become the best medical student I can be both to my peers and to my patients. My ultimate dream is to attend the University of Michigan Medical School which will provide me with the knowledge and guidance I will need to be able to get into one of the most competitive specialties there is, Dermatology.

In my personal life I will continue to hold on to my empathetic care I have for people and animals. I hope to still have a strong support system in life although that may change into different forms. Lastly, I hope to be able to look back on my life and although I will be faced with inevitable regrets, I hope that my monumental achievements and my beautiful journey throughout life will trump all.

Although I'm sure that there will be some aspects of my "I want to become" statement that will not come true I will still try to continue to work my way towards the future that I want for myself. I will continue to not only grow acedemically but also mentally, physically and emotionally. All of these things intertwine together and will ultimately shape me into the person I want to become.

"I am" statement

This statement was written in the beginning of Honors-200. The "I am" statement serves as a starting point of where I am now in my life personally and academically.

I am an extremely hard working honors student who is decidated to my studies at IUPUI. I always ensure that school and my studies come first every day. I constantly try to push myself to work harder and be a better student in every aspect. I strive to improve not only my GPA and exam scores but also my overall work ethic, drive and determination. I am also a student that stands up for acedemic fairness and equality which is something I will continue to advocate for both for myself and my fellow classmates.

When I look back at my I am statement I realize how far I have come. I would have never imagined the many great academic, community and service learning experiences I have been able to take part in. My I am statement will eventually be a I was statement which will be a great piece of my time here at IUPUI to look back on in the future.

Reflection on "I am" and "I want to become" statements
January 2025
My E-portfolio and my artifact 1 are intended for future graduates and Pre-medical students who may feel overwhelmed and unsure of their future.
Introduction: IUI has created experiences and opportunities that have helped shaped me into who I am today. I am currently in the last semester of my senior year and I am looking forward to graduating and moving on to another chapter in my life. I just recently applied for the Top 100 students and I look forward to seeing if I am able to receive this prestigious award. Throughout the years I have taken part in many incredible experiences in academics, co-curricular and extracurricular areas.

Reflection: I believe that both my "I am" and "I want to become" statements still apply to who I am today as a soon to be graduate. I have stayed consistent in my academic life by keeping my GPA up and also applying to the top 100 students. I hope to be recognized as a top student because of the immense amount of work and sacrifice I have put in over the years. However,I feel as if in my personal life I have grown the most. I have made difficult decisions to remove myself from vcertain relationships and have learned to remove myself from certain situations if my standards and expectations are not being met. I feel as if my self respect and self love has continued to improve throughout the years and I am extremely proud to be able to say this.

Updated Journey Map
In my updated journey map I decided to simplify it from my previous Honors- 200 journey map. I feel as if it is easy to get overwhelmed when looking into the future because there are so many unknowns. I want to improve on taking everything one thing at a time and not overwhelming myself. In my old journey map I was planning on not taking a gap year and taking my MCAT dwhile studying during the semester. I quickly realized that I wanted to prioritize my GPA nad wait until I had more time to study for my MCAT and give it my all. I know this journey will already be long and I would rather do things correctly rather than trying to rush and not doing everything to the best of my ability.
