Honors-200

To reflect on this particular activity I also tried to think of more accomplishments and also different set backs in my life that I wasn't able to include on my Journey Map. I also thought of smaller events in my life that lead to a great accomplishment. Many times we only tend to focus on monumental accomplishments although all the small sacrifices and accomplishments up until that point are ignored. After reflecting on the Journey Map activity I realized that I should be more grateful for all of the small achievements that allow me to make large accomplishments in my life.

Journey Map

While making my journey map I thought of events in my life that have been both positive and negative. It is important to consider the fact that life doesn't always go how we want it to go. Sometimes you can plan all you want and the situation will still not turn out how you wouldve hoped it would. This activity was a great way to vizualize the major events in my life that have happened and that will happen in the future.

In any almost any career there are a plethora of experiences that can be beneficial to someones learning experience outside of the classroom. As a pre-medical student I especially enjoy experiences that have allowed me to have a direct benefit on the community around me.

One of the major experiences that I am interested in as an Honors student is laboratory research. I think that laboratory research will serve as a greater hands-on experience that I will be able to attain new and unique skills from. I am interested in attending Medical School and one of the reasons I am so interested in medicine is because of my passion for learning. Working in a lab will allow me to explore and expand aspects of learning medicine that I have never been able to experience before. As an Honors student my top priority is to expand my knowledge as much as possible both in and out of the classroom. I believe that being a part of a laboratory research team will not only feed my passion for medicine but will also allow me to take part in a greater part of the community here at IUPUI. I am planning on starting lab research this coming summer and continuing to work in the lab throughout my senior year and gap year. I have had many opportunities to do laboratory research although I have not had an adequate amount of time in my schedule to commit. Being a part of a laboratory research group requires an immense amount of meticulousness, unique opportunities to problem solve and a plethora of other benefits that will provide me with attributes that I can carry with me throughout my professional career.

Another experience that I am interested is applying for The Distributed Drug Discovery Scholarship for Excellence in Organic Chemistry. As an Honors student I believe that this scholarship would be a great opportunity for me to be recognized and awarded for my hard work and dedication. Historically Organic Chemistry is a class that is difficult for many students. Although Organic Chemistry has been my favorite subject and I have performed and will continue to perform exceedingly well in this subject. I plan on applying for this scholarship next year as it is required to have completed Organic Chemistry 2 lecture and laboratory which I am in the process of completing this semester. I believe that this award will serve to recognize my contributions to the subject of Organic Chemistry as well as set me apart as a student at IUPUI and as a future medical student.

Lastly, I am extremely interested in studying abroad as one of my engaged learning experiences. I have never been outside of the United States, and I feel that it is my responsibility and duty to engage with various groups of people and various cultures outside of my own. As a future physician I think that it is unbelievably important to develop an understanding and deeper connection with people all around the world. As an Honors student I feel that it Is imperative to complete service and interact with the community directly beyond the campus of IUPUI. Having a direct impact on the community around you is an incredible experience that goes beyond the scope of our campus. I plan on studying abroad and traveling to different countries around the world throughout my senior year and gap year. This experience will provide me with a chance to impact not only Indianapolis but the world around me.

I am looking forward to completing all of my engaged learning goals in the near future in order to further my education. I plan on working in a laboratory at the IU School of Medicine, traveling to Malawi as Ukraine for service learning and receiving Scholorship in Organic Chemistry.
